Riot Games has announced that the eagerly awaited fighting game 2XKO will be released in early access on October 7, 2025. Previously, some gamers had the chance to test 2XKO during its closed beta, and the title will likely become much more popular after its early access release.
2XKO is an upcoming 2v2 tag-team fighting game with characters from the League of Legends universe. Riot Games started to work on 2XKO, initially known as Project L, back in 2019, so expectations for the game are high, especially considering how popular the League of Legends franchise continues to be. 2XKO started a closed beta earlier this month, and fortunately, gamers who were not able to participate will not have to wait much longer to try the title for themselves.
When Will 2XKO Enter Early Access?
- October 7, 2025
Riot Games recently confirmed that 2XKO will release in early access on October 7, 2025, marking the start of Season 0. Unfortunately, only PC gamers will be able to participate in the early access, and PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners will have to wait a little longer until they can finally play as well. Currently, there’s no information about when that will happen.
Earlier this year, Riot Games confirmed that 2XKO will have 10 available fighters at launch, an arguably low number that surprised some gamers considering how long the title has been in development. At the moment, nine champions have been officially introduced: Vi, Jinx, Braum, Illaoi, Darius, Ahri, Ekko, Yasuo, and Blitzcrank. The debut of the game’s 10th champion will happen simultaneously with the beginning of Season 0, and Riot Games is trying to keep the character under wraps. However, previous datamined information indicates that the last champion could be the rat mascot, Teemo. Fortunately, due to 2XKO’s existence as a live service game, more characters will be added over time, giving players more options to pick from in the future.
After its release, it’s expected that 2XKO will quickly become an incredibly popular 2D fighting game. Not only does the title carry the well-known League of Legends brand, but it also features gameplay that emphasizes strategic team play, which could give it enough depth to foster a strong competitive scene.
It remains to be seen how 2XKO will fare, though, especially considering the game’s longevity with the small number of characters. League of Legends has over 170 champions, and the number of options in 2XKO pales in comparison to that, but the potential remains that many exciting heroes will be added to the 2v2 fighting game over the coming years.
